06 / HAZARDOUS WASTE

Specialist waste.
A considered approach.

Start with the waste characteristics and your operating requirements. Build a coordinated plan for documentation, collection and suitable treatment, recovery or disposal partner discussions.

UNDERSTAND YOUR STARTING POINT

The waste profile
determines the next step.

Hazardous waste management starts with the source process, waste characteristics, applicable classification and the permissions relevant to the generator and receiving facility. Different streams may need different handling and management routes.

Recycle Veda helps organise the available information, clarify the services required and coordinate suitable partner discussions. Hazardous waste management should not be presented as one generic EPR programme: specific EPR provisions apply only to identified streams.

Four questions before choosing a route.

A waste description alone may not be enough to determine the appropriate treatment or recovery option. The scope should be based on the information available for the specific stream.

01

What generated it?

The process, raw materials and activity associated with the waste.

02

What is in it?

Available composition, characteristics, safety information and test reports.

03

How much is generated?

Quantity, frequency, locations and the existing storage arrangements.

04

Where can it go?

The appropriate recovery, treatment or disposal route and relevant facility permissions.

RECYCLE VEDA / SERVICE SCOPE

Practical support.
Across the whole programme.

Choose the support your team needs.
Agree the scope before work begins.

01

Waste information review

Organise stream descriptions, process details and available supporting information before defining the work.

02

Documentation planning

Identify the records and authorisation information that need attention within the proposed programme.

03

Service & budget planning

Connect site requirements, quantities and intended management routes with a practical scope and budget.

04

Collection coordination

Discuss the collection and handover requirements with suitable specialist providers for the stream.

05

Processing partner coordination

Connect identified needs with relevant recovery, treatment or disposal partner discussions.

06

Record organisation

Bring available movement, receipt and processing documentation together for agreed reporting support.

HOW WE WORK WITH YOU

From information
to coordinated action.

  1. 01

    Profile the waste

Review the source process, waste description and available test or safety information.

  2. 02

    Clarify the route

Identify the scope, permissions and specialist requirements that need checking.

  3. 03

    Coordinate the service

Connect the agreed collection and receiving-facility arrangements.

  4. 04

    Close the information trail

Organise movement, receipt and relevant processing or reporting records.

PREPARE FOR YOUR FIRST CONVERSATION

Better information.
A clearer service plan.

Share what is known about the stream before any movement is planned. If the description or classification is uncertain, the additional information required should be established first.

Discuss hazardous waste

Useful records to have ready

  • Waste descriptions and source-process details
  • Available safety data, analysis or characterisation reports
  • Quantities, generation frequency and site information
  • Existing consents, authorisations and management arrangements
  • Movement, receiving-facility and treatment records already available

An initial preparation guide. The final document set is confirmed for your activity and the services agreed.

YOUR QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

More clarity
before you begin.

Need to discuss a specific product, waste stream or business activity?

Ask our team
Is hazardous waste management the same as EPR?

No. Hazardous waste management includes requirements relating to the waste stream, authorisations and its movement and management route. EPR applies to specified streams under separate provisions; it is not a universal label for every hazardous waste.

Can all hazardous waste go to the same facility?

No. A receiving facility needs the appropriate permissions and capability for the relevant stream and process. Recovery, treatment and disposal are different routes that must be assessed for the actual waste.

What if we do not know the exact waste classification?

Start with the source process, a detailed description and any existing analysis or safety information. The scope should identify what further information or specialist assessment is required before selecting a route.

What records should accompany the programme?

Relevant waste descriptions, authorisation information, movement documentation, receiving-facility records and applicable returns form part of the information trail. The exact records need to be checked for the stream, activity and location. Engaging a contractor does not remove the occupier’s applicable responsibilities.

Can one programme cover more than one location?

A coordinated scope can be discussed across sites, while keeping the waste descriptions, quantities and authorisation requirements for each location distinct.
